Day 4
We left Barrow Campsite to explore the local area, enjoying a scenic drive towards the legendary Loch Ness. The weather was kind to us, and it was clear from the steady flow of visitors that this is a well-loved destination. We arrived at the Loch Ness Centre, where there was plenty of parking, including dedicated spaces for campers and motorhomes.
The centre itself was great fun—informative, engaging, and full of different theories about the mysterious Loch Ness Monster. Do you believe…?
Afterwards, we stopped for a lovely meal at Fiddlers Highland Restaurant before heading out to Rogie Falls. The drive there was beautiful, and from the car park it was only a short walk to the bridge and viewing platform. A small crowd had already gathered, murmuring excitedly—then we heard someone say, “There’s one!”
We looked just in time to see a salmon leaping up the waterfall. Once we spotted the first, we began to see more and more salmon attempting the incredible climb. I was absolutely thrilled. Watching them launch themselves up the rushing water was nothing short of magical—one of those unexpected moments that becomes a highlight of the whole trip.
Our final stop of the day was Hopeman, not far from Barrow Campsite—a quaint fishing village with a charm all of its own. And, to our delight, a fish and chip shop boasting the biggest menu I’ve ever seen!
