Security - what have we done?
Campervan Security: The Layered Approach We’ve Taken (and Why) Campervan security is one of those topics nobody wants to think about — until they have to. Sadly, campervan and van theft is on the rise, and opportunistic thieves know exactly where manufacturers cut corners. Rather than relying on a single solution, we’ve taken a layered, step-by-step approach to security. The idea is simple: make the van hard, noisy, time-consuming and frustrating to break into. Thieves want q

Toilets on the road
Toilets in a Campervan: Finding Them, Using Them & Dealing With the Poo! 💩 Let’s get one thing straight early on: Living in a campervan means you will talk about toilets. A lot. Whether you’re parked up in the wilds of Scotland, cruising through Europe, or wedged between two white vans in a lay-by at 2am, toilet logistics quickly become one of the most important parts of van life. So let’s talk toilets — finding them, using them, emptying them, and yes… dealing with the poo

Why We Chose Lithium and Why We Went Huge!
Why We Chose Lithium Batteries for Our Campervan — And Why We Went Massive With 628Ah If you’ve been following our campervan adventures, you’ll know that we’re determined to live as independently off-grid as possible. That means reliable power—no constant hunting for hook-ups, no worrying if the lights will die mid-evening, and definitely no sacrificing creature comforts like Starlink, charging devices, or running our Truma system confidently. After months of research, number

Day 5 – Dornoch Detours and Fairy-Tale Walks
We left Barrow Campsite and set off for Wick, where we had a pitch reserved at Wick River Campsite. The journey was around 116 miles, roughly three hours of driving, but with our usual stops we knew it would take most of the day. The weather was on our side again—another stretch of blue skies. After crossing Cromarty Firth, we made our way towards Dornoch. We’d both been looking forward to this stop: the home of the famous Chocolate Mountain, allegedly serving the best hot ch

CONDENSATION - What is it? How do we deal with it?
Dealing With Condensation in a Campervan: Why It Happens & How to Stop It Living or travelling in a campervan is all about freedom — waking up in wild places, cooking with the doors open, and enjoying life at your own pace. But there’s one thing every van-dweller faces at some point: Condensation. It creeps onto your windows overnight, drips down cold surfaces, dampens bedding, and can eventually lead to mould or bad smells if ignored. The good news? With a few smart habits a

Loch Ness
Day 4 We left Barrow Campsite to explore the local area, enjoying a scenic drive towards the legendary Loch Ness. The weather was kind to us, and it was clear from the steady flow of visitors that this is a well-loved destination. We arrived at the Loch Ness Centre, where there was plenty of parking, including dedicated spaces for campers and motorhomes. The centre itself was great fun—informative, engaging, and full of different theories about the mysterious Loch Ness Monste

Hangman’s Cairn - Nairn, The Cairngorms and a Surprise at Braemar
The NC500 - Day Two and Three: On day two we made our way to Nairn, a 160-mile drive to Barrow Campsite Nairn . It’s another lovely site—slightly more basic than our first stop, but absolutely spotless with a peaceful, tucked-away feel. From our pitch we had a view of Hangman’s Cairn, a Bronze Age monument just outside the campsite, which gave the whole place a really special atmosphere. We decided to stay for two nights to recharge after the long drive. The journey itself wa

The NC500
2025 was flying by as we carried on planning our NC500 adventure. We’d bought Robbie Roams NC500 , and honestly, it was money well spent—I’d absolutely recommend it. It gave us loads of ideas on places to stay, things to do and where to eat. With all this new inspiration, we tweaked our route to include a detour to Orkney and went ahead and booked our campsites. Then in July, life threw us yet another curveball. In an effort to get fitter and healthier, we’d decided to tackle

Our First Motorhome Trip
We hired a Motorhome from ' Trek Trailers Lincolnshire '. A swift Voyager and decided to take it out and see how we got on. From the moment we picked it up we were hooked. This was what we wanted, this is where we wanted to be. In October 2024, we hired a Swift Voyage 475 for a weekend to dip our toes into the world of motorhoming. We knew the layout wasn’t ideal for us, but it was available locally and we thought it would at least give us a feel for life on the road. We he
